Support These Amazing Animal Rescues in Boca Raton and South Florida

Supporting Local Animal Rescues

If you’re passionate about animals and looking for a way to make a difference, supporting local animal rescues in Boca Raton and South Florida, is a meaningful way to give back.

If you are moving to Boca Raton and thinking, I might want to adopt a pet, this blog post might just be what you needed to see today!

Keep in mind, many communities and condominiums have weight and pet restrictions (insert eye roll here) so please make sure to check into that before you adopt. As a local real estate agent, I can help you out with navigating that “whole” thing!

Adopting A Pet Brings Joy

As someone who has adopted many pets throughout my life, I can tell you firsthand that rescue animals bring unparalleled joy, love, and companionship.

From my first cat, Kirby in Gainesville, Florida and dog, Magnum, during my college days at the University of Florida, to my current pups, Bennie and Brody, my life has been enriched by the gift of animals and in particular rescue animals.

Each pet has their own story, personality, and quirks that make them unique.

Bennie’s Story

Bennie mini schnauzer

In February of 2020 our belove mini schnauzer Bella, adopted via Tri-County Animal Rescue in Boca, passed away at the age of 14. She is still sorely missed.

Our yellow lab Brody, who was raised properly, by Bella, became sad and was lonely. Thus, unbenounced to us, our daughter Halle Alessia, saw a news article about a mini schnauzer rescue from a hoarding house in Miami.

She promptly applied to have us adopt one of the dogs from Furry Friends Jupiter and thus, our journey with our crazy Bennie began, July of 2020.

He is hilarious, a bit of a character, food sneak, likes to nibble on toes and enjoys sitting on tables and chairs. You can catch some of my stories on @soooboca Instagram.

You can also read all about Bennie’s story along with the other puppies that were rescued thanks to WPLG Channel 10 Miami and my pal through adoption, the fabulous Kristi Krueger, as her dog Fritz is Bennies brother!

And yes, we compare notes, they both have kinked tails and the same interesting traits.

Tri-County Animal Rescue (Boca Raton)

Located in Boca Raton, Tri-County Humane Society is a no-kill shelter dedicated to finding homes for countless animals. This local animal rescue provides food, medical care, and love to every animal in their care until they find their forever families.

We adopted Bella, our sweet mini schnauzer, from Tri-County. She was with us for 14 amazing years.

You can support their mission by donating cash, supplies, or even your time.

Furry Friends Adoption, Clinic & Ranch (Jupiter)

This incredible animal rescue is where we found Bennie, our quirky and lovable mini schnauzer, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

After our beloved Bella passed, we decided to bring another dog into our lives.

Bennie came from a hoarding situation in Miami-Dade, and while he was initially timid and afraid, he blossomed into a confident and playful pup thanks to our lab, Brody.

Furry Friends always needs donations for food, medical care, and operational costs. Visit their website to learn how you can help.

Big Dog Ranch Rescue (Loxahatchee)

If you love big breeds, Big Dog Ranch Rescue is a must-know animal rescue organization. They specialize in saving and rehoming larger dogs, providing them with the care and training they need to thrive in a new home.

Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida

As a Lab lover, I can’t recommend this organization enough. Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida focuses on rehoming Labs of all ages, including senior dogs who are often overlooked. Their work is vital in finding these loyal companions their forever families.

Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League

Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League is dedicated to protecting lost, homeless, and unwanted animals in Palm Beach County. Their mission includes providing shelter, spay/neuter and medical services, and finding loving homes for neglected pets—all while promoting animal welfare and community education.

As an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Peggy Adams receives no government funding and relies entirely on donations from individuals, foundations, and corporations to continue its life-saving work.

How to Help Local Animal Shelters

Even if you’re not ready to adopt, there are plenty of ways to support these amazing animal rescues and organizations:

  • Donate Funds: Help cover the cost of food, medical bills, and shelter operations.
  • Provide Supplies: Drop off much-needed items like pet food, blankets, toys, and cleaning supplies.
  • Volunteer: Give your time to help care for the animals or assist with events.
  • Spread the Word: Share adoptable animals on social media to help them find homes.

Why Rescue Animals Are a Gift

Bella, Buff and Bimini rescue dogs

Here is my OG mob of adoptees, Bella (Mini Schnauzer) and Bimini (Shiba Inu/Husky mix, and yes she could talk) both rescued from Tri-County Animal Rescue and Buff, the Dudley lab with his pink nose, we adopted from a family that needed to rehome him. Please excuse the photo, this was taken back in 2012!

Rescuing animals is one of the most rewarding experiences. Each of my rescue dogs has brought something special to my life.

Bennie, with his love of sitting in high places like barstools and tables, keeps us laughing daily. Bella with her “girl boss” vibe, Buff (named after Jimmy Buffett) for his oh so laid back vibe, they all have brought their beautiful, selfless selves into our lives.

I truly believe rescue animals are a gift from God. They teach us kindness, patience, and unconditional love.
